Philip Lafferty

Philip was admitted to practice as a Barrister & Solicitor in WA in 1979.

Philip was articled to Illbery Barblett & O'Dea in 1979 and joined EM Heenan & Co following his admission.

In 1981 he set up practice together with the late John Gilmour QC.

In 1985 Philip set up Kay & Lafferty with Anthony Kay and following the dissolution of that firm in 1991 continued practising in his own name until 2003.

Returning to his native land in search of warm beers and the joys of English cricket together with fulfilling a long held desire to practice in the country of his birth Philip and his wife relocated to London and he was admitted to practice in the United Kingdom in 2004.

Between 2004 and 2013 Philip operated his own legal practice in South Kensington in the West End of London.

Returning to Perth in 2013 Philip acted as Counsel for several law firms.

During his long career Philip has conducted several hundred trials as Counsel in various Courts in Western Australia and whilst practising in London he regularly appeared before the High Court of Justice and various county courts throughout the United Kingdom.

Although he is predominantly a commercial and civil litigator, conducting trials in the Supreme, District and Federal Court, Philip also has extensive experience conducting trials in the Wardens Court, Family Court and various Magistrates Courts in both civil and criminal matters.

In his spare time Philip tries to keep fit (so he can keep up with his wife), reads classic English literature and plays guitar badly (which sounds really good after a glass or two of red wine).
