Jonathan Davies
Jonathan is a trial lawyer who practises as counsel in criminal, administrative and commercial litigation in superior courts and statutory tribunals.
Jonathan has acted as lead trial counsel in a number of high profile forensic/DNA murder cases and has a particular interest in DNA and forensic defence.
With over 35 years of admitted practice, Jonathan has extensive trial experience as defence counsel in:
- Murder cases
- Motor vehicle homicide cases
- Major drug cases
- Corporate, fraud and regulatory cases
- Commonwealth cases, including people smuggling
On the civil side, Jonathan is experienced trial counsel in superior court commercial cases.
Jonathan is experienced counsel in the conduct and argument of civil and criminal appeals, including in the High Court of Australia.
Past, notable appeals in which Jonathan has appeared as counsel include Pereiras v State of WA (the Walsham Murder Appeal); Button v The Queen and Beamish v The Queen, and de la Espriella v The Queen.
Since 2009, Jonathan has been a part time lecturer at Edith Cowan University, Sellinger Centre, School of Law and Business.
Jonathan’s recognition and awards include the 2007 Annual Civil Justice Award from the Australian Lawyers Alliance, the 2006 Law Society of Western Australia Public Service Award 2013 and as a national finalist in the Australian Lawyers Weekly, Lawyer of the Year awards.
